Kehidupan awal

Danes yang dilahirkan di Manhattan kepada Christopher Danes dan isterinya Carla. Danes yang dikatakan pengalamannya as being "as WASPy as you can get";[1] her paternal grandfather, Gibson A. Danes, ialah dekan sekolah seni dan reka bentuk di Universiti Yale.[2][3] Dia mempunyai abangnya, Asa, yang graduated from Oberlin College and works as a litigation attorney for the law firm of Paul Hastings.

Danes menghadiri Sekolah Dalton di New York City, the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City,[4] and the exclusive private high school Lycée Français de Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. In 1998, Danes went to Yale University (her father's alma mater). [5] After studying for two years as a psychology major, she dropped out of Yale to focus on her film career.
